In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the highest-streamed hit song at the time within one year. The song was a mix of reggaeton with pop that did not just bring new interest to reggaeton, but also increased interest in Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs in 2016, as opposed to two in 2015. When Despacito was at its height, the band's commercial success in 2017 19 songs mostly written in Spanish reached the top 100. This number rose to 41 in 2020. Following Justin Bieber's bilingual remix from Despacito (2017) well-known artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna together with Maluma for Medellin (2019). Some reggaeton artists have criticized the shift to popular music by 2020. But a new group, Rauw alejandro, was determined to alter the direction of music. It often utilized elements of electronic dance music, in addition to other styles.
